A Tribute to Adam Moen

Adam Moen was an adoring father who enjoyed spending time with his children and volunteering his services for various activities and sports in his community.

He has played trombone for various orchestras and bands, currently performing with Elgin Symphony and Chicago Philharmonic, while teaching and counseling are also among his work responsibilities.

Early Life and Education

Adam was a dedicated father to Ella and Luke, as well as being their beloved uncle, cousin, nephew, friend and more. He will be deeply missed by everyone he knew and loved him; his generous spirit always had something good to share and always had a smile for everyone around him. Adam enjoyed working as a Guidance Counselor helping many students along their journeys in many ways.

Moen began his career as a Living Sound musician for Terry Law Ministries for ten years before co-founding MediaComplete Church Software Company and hosting his radio program Don Moen & Friends Radio Program from 2009 on.

He has won multiple Dove Awards for his music, as well as nine nominations. An American citizen and practicing Christian, his age stands at 69.

Professional Career

Moen currently plays as section trombonist of the Elgin Symphony and has played with many chamber and contemporary ensembles including Chicago Chamber Musicians, Fulcrum Point, ICE and Pink Martini. Additionally he has performed with Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Chicago Opera Theatre and Illinois Philharmonic orchestras.

Adam Moen juggles both professional and volunteer roles on nights and weekends as a mental health advocate, speaking to high school students, faculty, church parishioners, and others about mental illness to reduce its stigmatization and encourage seeking help-seeking behavior. Adam is also the creator of Avalo, an app that allows users to anonymously share their mental health struggles while connecting with peer support via iOS or Android platforms. Married and father of two, Adam currently resides in Clear Lake Wisconsin with his family.

Students earning this recognition must have completed at least two semesters and attained a grade point average of at least 3.5 across their work at DWU and elsewhere, as well as having participated in at least one varsity sport and achieved certain points through this activity.

Karin, Karin’s bratty teenage daughter, often sneaks out to wild teen parties and drinks excessively; yet she also shows a gentle side – as evidenced when “Adam” saves her from drowning and shows genuine concern versus his real brother who treats her differently.

Adam may appear to be living life on his terms by living out of a motor home and surfing most of his days, yet is also dedicated to his family; being loved by his sisters, nieces, nephews and close circle of friends and colleagues.

Adam was an invaluable son, brother, husband, father, uncle and cousin to many. His music brought solace to many through its soothing sounds as a counselor coach teacher.

He served as a section trombone player with both the Elgin Symphony and Chicago Philharmonic orchestras, where his family includes wife Ingrid, children Ella and Luke as well as parents, siblings, friends, co-workers and colleagues.

He was also the creator of Avalo, a free peer-to-peer support app offering nonjudgmental assistance to those struggling with mental health challenges. He devoted his life to helping those in need, often giving keynote talks or speeches in schools, churches or workplaces about his message of how love and forgiveness were more powerful than hate or fear.
