Early Life and Education
William Schear was born around 1903 in North Dakota. He and Cecile Schear had one son and five additional children together. William lived until 1930 in Connecticut.
He was the proud father of Rhoda Spiegelman, Doris Tanklow and Debra Schear; grandfather to Ellen Turcotte and Donna Spiegelman; great-grandfather of Nessarose Schear, Ariela Schear and Adam Smokler – as well as being brother to both Laurel and Glen Schear.
Tulane University and Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law were his places of education; after which, he began publishing at William Morris Agency before moving over to DeFiore & Company in 2009. His interests lie with literary fiction, deeply reported narratives, and big idea books; in this capacity he serves on its contracts committee of Association of Authors’ Representatives.
Professional Career
As a professional footballer, Shearer won both the 1994-95 Premier League championship and two consecutive Golden Boot awards with Blackburn Rovers. Additionally, he competed at both the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 1996 tournaments.
Shearer retired as a player in 2006, becoming an TV pundit for BBC. Since then he has also become an honorary Freeman of Newcastle upon Tyne and Northumberland.
In 2009, he was appointed an Ambassador of the FA National School of Dance. Additionally, he authored various children’s books such as his novel “The Last Game”.
