Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard brings his emotive lyrics and emotive songwriting approach to live performances of Death Cab for Cutie with him, creating an electric punk rock energy in live shows. Fender’s Ben Gibbard Mustang captures some of that energy through its accurate recreation of his modified touring workhorse.

Early Life and Education

Professional Career

His professional playing career has taken him across various teams in the NBA G League and other professional leagues, competing at various levels with US national soccer team competitions as well. Currently he’s a part of Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

He has successfully assisted numerous junior hockey players find spots in NCAA programs, with particular success among SMU Mustangs alumni – they’ve gone on to NCAA D1 or D2 schools with 100% success!

He has attracted some star talent as well, with many former and current NFL players attending his practices – which has proven vital as they expand in stature. Furthermore, he’s managed to develop strong bonds between himself and Dallas as a city.

Achievement and Honors

Billy made an unforgettable impression on West Perry High School as an all-sport athlete, competing in field hockey, football and basketball for the Mustangs. He earned two Tri Valley League All Star awards during his three years there as well as being team captain both junior and senior years of basketball team play.

In 2022, Grayson Rigdon led the Mustangs to their inaugural state tournament appearance since 1887 in boys basketball. They captured Region II-1A title by defeating Nos 4 Irion County and 7 Garden City while Grayson Rigdon earned MVP honors after scoring 44 points against Garden City in final game.

Mustang fall student-athletes earned 295 spots on the Middle Atlantic Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll with 295 of those earning at least 4.0 grade point averages, including Cam Leydig and Jack Scaliti who were recognized on 2023 All-MAC Commonwealth Men’s Lacrosse Teams.

Personal Life

Benjamin ISD decided not to renew Shannon Waters’ contract for the 2022 school year after an impressive 10-1 campaign, instead opting for Jamie Rigdon as head coach instead. Rigdon brought his son Grayson and other talent with him from Crowell; assistant Nathan Hayes has already won two state championships as head coach before taking over Paint Creek this summer.

The Mustangs started their season off right on Friday against Loraine and with a victory, would remain at the top of Class 1A Division II according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. What sets apart The Mustangs is their unique roof folding feature – operated manually and needing only one person for operation!
