Early Life and Education

Daniel Felix was a born in Beckley and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. As well as running Slicks License Service in Charleston and working for Charleston Daily Mail and BJW Printers as a contract carrier – all while remaining a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Michigan Capitol Confidential published a story in April about Daniel Felix, a student from a working-class Detroit neighborhood who achieved top academic scores and acceptance letters from some of the country’s premier universities. In 2016 the Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science building officially opened for business. Its first four floors feature teaching and research labs for Mechanical & Materials Engineering as well as Electrical & Computer Engineering departments.

Professional Career

Dan Felix has been working as an over-the-road truck driver for 32 years, employed by several companies such as B.A. Railton and Sysco Foods. At the 2021-22 indoor season, he became the first Pitt athlete in program history to win back-to-back heptathlon crowns at an ACC Championships, breaking facility, meet, and school records while becoming first Team All-ACC recipient for this event.

Daniel is also active in his community and serves on various local boards. An avid outdoorsman, Daniel enjoys packrafting, backcountry ice-skating and hiking in Alaska.

Daniel Felix will be deeply missed by his daughter Justina; son Danny; brother Dominic Felix and sister Samphath as well as nieces and nephews Felicia Julian Minerva Wilson Sandra Mikaela as well as many family members and friends. Unfortunately he was predeceased by his parents Domingo and Maria Felix.
