After the Iranian Revolution, he joined Khomeini’s Council of Islamic Revolution as one of its members and gained his trust. Thanks to his political acumen and skill at persuasion, he quickly rose through its ranks, eventually becoming one of Iran’s most influential figures at that time.

He married Effat Marashi and had two daughters: Faezeh and Fatemeh. Of his daughters, Faezeh made headlines for visiting a female leader of Iran’s persecuted Baha’i religious minority despite intense pressure against visiting such individuals in Iran.
