Early Life and Education
Education circles recognize him as an innovator for his efforts in closing the achievement gap between low-income students and their counterparts in more affluent communities. His efforts have garnered him national acclaim as well as the admiration of teachers all across Virginia.
His work is founded on the notion that children and families are key components of closing this gap, which led him to establish the Home Visiting Program which supports new parents as they care for their infants, providing education, parenting skills training and reduced child maltreatment – one of the largest programs specifically created to enhance early childhood outcomes in America funded both privately and publicly and serving pregnant and postpartum women with incomes below 185 percent of poverty level and their babies until age five.
Daniel Sellers was an impressive defensive lineman and tight end for North Allegheny. He led his Tiger teammates in sacks during their run to the 2022 WPIAL Class 6A championship game and also contributed significantly in their ground-based offense. On Saturday he announced his commitment to attend University of Richmond for college starting in 2023; music such as rock and metal were his passion but his greatest love lay with machines; such as fast cars, motorcycles, speed boats or planes.

Former Bearcat football player, Sellers has developed his leadership abilities through time spent playing for Toronto Argonauts and Ottawa Roughriders of the Canadian Football League as well as Arena Football League club Cincinnati Rockers.

As the Minnesota region coordinator for Teach For America Twin Cities, he had to fight hard for corps members’ eligibility in getting certified as teachers within Minnesota – an effort which earned him the Peter Jennings Award for civic leadership.
Daniel Sellers was an accomplished master plumber and loving husband, father, son and brother. He took great pleasure in fishing on the Saint Lawrence River and spending time at Wilson Hill Camp with his family. Daniel enjoyed listening to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Tom Petty music; additionally he enjoyed sailing and had earned his private pilot’s license.
Sellers would often read crime fiction by Margaret Murphy, Mo Hayder, Ruth Rendell and Agatha Christie for fun in his free time. Additionally, he enjoyed traveling around and had visited numerous cities worldwide.
He currently resides in Sarasota, Florida at 1567 Napoli Dr W with two children and their Wheaten Terrier named Rasmus. Additionally, he is an active community member and supporter of Teach For America.
