Dave wheat is an accomplished educator who has spent more than 30 years in the Houston Independent School District. He has served as a teacher, dean of students, principal and assistant superintendent.
He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Houston. He is an avid aviator and owns his own private plane.
Early Life and Education
He grew up in a Seventh-day Adventist family, where he was taught to be vegetarian. He was also a dedicated student and a top-performing athlete.
He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1963 and went on to earn a degree in industrial education from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He then served a tour in the United States Navy.
He was a longtime fan of the University of Houston Cougars, and also enjoyed fishing, jet skiing, swimming, golfing, and attending baseball games and football games. He loved being a part of his children and grandchildren’s lives and helping them with all their activities. He also enjoyed traveling and learning to ski. He was a very good friend to many. He was a kind and caring man with a heart of gold.
Professional Career
David Wheat has a long and distinguished career in the public and private sectors. He has been involved in a number of significant mergers and acquisitions including the $4.4 billion take-private of Atlantic Aviation by KKR, as well as Noble Corporation’s $3.4 billion merger with Maersk Drilling.
His practice has also included bankruptcy, workout and restructuring tax matters. He represents a diverse group of clients in all aspects of commercial law, including energy, private equity and real estate.
He has a particular interest in the international development of the grain industry and the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center in Manhattan, where genetic stores, technology and scientific knowledge are put to work for Kansas wheat farmers. He traveled to Afghanistan on behalf of the Grain Industry Alliance, working with wheat growers and extension workers in a variety of projects supported by the United States Agency for International Development.

David Wheat has been honored for his contributions to the world of agriculture. He is a winner of the 2014 Wolf Prize in Agriculture for his work on the genetics of wheat.
Throughout his career, Dave has been a passionate mentor for many students, and he is committed to diversity and inclusion in education. He has a strong belief in the International Baccalaureate program and believes that it is the best way to educate the future generation of students.
He also possesses the characteristics of a hard-working and loyal person, and he always did his best to support Chester High School basketball players and cheerleaders in any way that he could. He was proud of the success that they achieved and was always there for them in their time of need.
Personal Life
Dave had a huge heart and was always quick to help others. He also knew that charity starts at home, so he was constantly working to ensure that his family was taken care of.
His children were his world and he would do anything for them. He enjoyed traveling anywhere in the country to support his children and cheer on their sports teams.
He was a huge fan of basketball and loved to support Chester High School. He attended countless games, giving out rides to players and cheerleaders as well as volunteering at the concession stand.
He was a wonderful husband and father, with a big heart and a great smile that lit up the room. He will be missed by all that he touched.
