David Breskin

David Breskin is an acclaimed writer, poet and record producer who has been part of the avant-garde music scene since the early 80s. He has collaborated with notable musicians such as Bill Frisell, Nels Cline, Ronald Shannon Jackson and Vernon Reid.

He has published nine books of poetry. His work has been featured in several periodicals such as The New Yorker, Paris Review, TriQuarterly and Parnassus.

Early Life and Education

David Breskin is a journalist born in Chicago in 1958 who made a name for himself by writing for national magazines like GQ and LIFE.

He also wrote a number of highly-acclaimed investigative pieces on teen suicide, murder, and mayhem that earned him multiple National Magazine Awards.

His work has been featured in The New Yorker, Paris Review and Parnassus. Additionally, he has produced multiple poetry books as well as editing RICHTER 858: A multimedia exploration into Gerhard Richter’s abstract paintings featuring music by Bill Frisell.

In 2010, Delmonico Books/Prestel published Breskin’s multi-media book DIRTY BABY, featuring sixty-six paintings by Ed Ruscha alongside beautiful, lush poems written in the ancient Arabic poetic form known as the ghazal. Additionally, Breskin has published Inner Views: Filmmakers in Conversation – a compilation of interviews with film directors.

David Breskin currently represents clients with employment and labor-related matters in state and federal courts as well as administrative agencies. He also frequently represents plaintiffs’ counsel in class action and mass tort litigation. Selected by his peers to Super Lawyers from 2017 -2022, David is a highly-respected member of the legal community.

He also published Inner Views: Filmmakers in Conversation (Faber and Faber 1992). This collection includes conversations with Francis Coppola, David Cronenberg, Oliver Stone, Spike Lee, Robert Altman, Clint Eastwood and Tim Burton.

In 2010, Breskin created and produced DIRTY BABY, a multi-media book of poems featuring sixty-six paintings by Ed Ruscha alongside his “beautiful, lush” ghazals. He also commissioned new music from Nels Cline for this project which was released as a two-disc album in 2010. At present, Breskin is working on several other ventures.
