Elsa Mikeska Shot in the Back During an Attempt to Rob a Houston Gym
Elsa Mikeska was fatally shot during an attempted robbery. She was shot in the back while trying to escape. She died before paramedics arrived. The shooting occurred a short time after three Hispanic males in their early to mid-twenties attempted to rob the woman of her car. At the time, the woman thought the suspects were helping her, but they actually brandished guns and ransacked her car. Police have released surveillance video of the suspects.
Two of the suspects got out of their car and approached Mikeska. When she walked towards the entrance, one of the men opened fire. The suspects then fled without taking anything from Mikeska. Her family, neighbors and gym members are in a state of shock over her death. It’s unclear whether the suspects are still in the neighborhood.
The shooting happened on a Thursday morning near the Beamer Road area of Houston. Mikeska was on her way to her 5:00 a.m. fitness class when she was ambushed. The suspects parked their SUV near her car and two passengers in the SUV approached her as she ran towards the gym. One of the suspects shot and killed Mikeska before fleeing.
The suspect, a 16-year-old male, has been arrested and charged with capital murder. His identity and photo have not been released by the Houston Police Department. Police say that there were two other male suspects involved in the incident. The shooting happened at 4:50 a.m. on June 17. Detectives are working to identify the other suspects and catch the shooter.
Mikeska’s attackers opened fire as she parked her vehicle near the gym in the parking lot of Life Fit Personal Fitness Studio when she began her exercise routine. They shot at her, triggering an apparent carjacking attempt. Police have not identified the suspects, but they were described in the victim’s description.
