George Iacobaccio has been instrumental in some of Ulster County high school football’s most remarkable comebacks. He led Rondout Valley from 0-9 last year to 7-3 status and earned them a place in this fall’s Section 9 Class B championship game.

He’s an inspiring force of energy, and that drive has inspired his players to reach their highest potentials. That drive helped him engineer one of the greatest comebacks in Section 9 history this fall.

The Ganders, who had gone 4-23 the prior three years, started this fall on a tear with six straight victories. They thrashed Onteora 50-0, Dover 42-16, edged Highland 14-13, shutout Tri-Valley 63-14 and beat Red Hook 24-3 to earn their first sectional berth in six years.

Personal Life

George Iacobaccio has an infectious energy and infectious enthusiasm. He’s known for being personable and enthusiastic when it comes to sports activities.

His enthusiastic coaching style has seen Rondout Valley High School go from being a perennially mediocre football program to one of the region’s top teams. After going 0-9 last season and not fielding a varsity team for five years, the Ganders went on an incredible winning streak this fall and reached the Section 9 Class B championship game.

Iacobaccio’s role as head coach has seen him channel the power of positive thinking to transform the Ganders into a force in their division. Additionally, his enthusiasm has been a boon to the local community; he spearheaded efforts to install portable lights so the team could play some night games, which has drawn in supporters from nearby areas.
