George Politis – A Greek-Australian Businessman

George Politis is an associate professor of pediatrics and anesthesiology with a specialty in global health.

He specializes in pediatric anesthesiology and is board certified. Additionally, he belongs to the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia. Dr. K has participated regularly on medical missions with Operation Smile and trained anesthesia providers from less developed countries.

Early Life and Education

George Politis was born in Kythera, a Greek island jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea. It’s home to some of Australia’s most notable individuals such as Mad Max film director George Miller and former Supreme Court judge Theodore Simos, among others.

He was one of the inaugural inductees into Australia’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, marking a momentous night to honor all that citizens of Greek descent have contributed to Australian and global sport.

On the wall behind Politis’s desk, there are a series of black-and-white photos. They include one of a young Prince Charles surfing at Bondi Beach and another featuring Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip at an Australian Rugby League match.

Professional Career

George Politis, a Kytherian-Australian businessman, has been involved with rugby league for more than 50 years. As an enthusiastic and loyal supporter of the Sydney Roosters, George has served on their board throughout most of their history.

He is one of only five Australian-Kytherians to receive an Order of Australia, which was presented to him in 2014 on Queen’s birthday for his outstanding contribution to rugby league administration.

He is renowned for his generosity, especially towards friends and family. He was instrumental in getting Sonny Williams back into rugby league after his five-year ban expired, helping pay for their legal fees during a protracted battle with Canterbury over breach of contract.

His family is Greek, but he has adopted Australian culture and values. Married to Maria, he and she have six children. In Sydney alone, the couple owns houses and apartments worth tens of millions of dollars as well as a farm in the Hunter Valley.

George Politis is one of Australia’s wealthiest Greek-Australians. He owns 38 privately owned car dealerships and a major stake in an ASX-listed auto retailer, ranking 189th on AFR’s 2020 Rich List.

He is also chairman of Sydney’s Roosters rugby league club, which he guided to victory in 2002. According to businessman Mark Bouris – whom he’s known for two decades – He’s considered a ruthless and powerful politician within the sport.

Harry Stamoulis is a property tycoon with numerous acquisitions under his belt, such as the $91 million Woolworths distribution facility in Mulgrave and the $125 million One Collins Street tower in Melbourne. His father Spiros Stamoulis built an acclaimed soft-drink brand before transitioning into property investing.
