Early Life and Education
Early childhood experiences from birth to age eight shape a child’s brain development. During this period of rapid brain expansion, billions of connections are made between neurons in the developing child’s cortex that will form the basis for future learning, behavior and health outcomes.
A strong early education foundation equips children with the necessary skills for success in school, life and society. It also helps them avoid negative consequences such as poverty or crime later in life.
Research demonstrates that healthy development during early childhood, particularly between ages 3 and 8, provides the foundations for educational achievement, economic productivity, responsible citizenship, lifelong health and strong communities. Educators, parents and governing entities all have a role to play in ensuring young children receive this essential foundational education.
