George Zamanakos is the new president and CEO of Intuity Medical, a Fremont-based maker of blood glucose tests. He served on the company’s board for a year and a half and brings experience in diabetes technology and healthcare innovation, strategy and commercialization.
He was most recently a divisional vice president of global strategic marketing with Abbott Diabetes, where he had global responsibilities for the company’s diabetes business and shaped the commercialization and innovation strategy for the FreeStyle Libre platform.
George Zamanakos is the President and CEO of Intuity Medical, a medical technology company focused on making life with diabetes easier. He brings to the role deep experience in diabetes technology, healthcare innovation, strategy, and commercialization. He joins Intuity Medical from Abbott Diabetes where he served as divisional VP of global strategic marketing for the company’s $4 billion diabetes business. He also shaped the commercialization and innovation strategy for FreeStyle Libre, a diabetes monitoring platform that revolutionized the way people manage their glucose levels.
He is also building a “stealth mode” initiative that will enable physicians to help high-risk pregnant women without ever leaving their home. This is a huge opportunity to make health care more affordable and accessible. He is based in San Diego, California.

Previously, he was the divisional vice president of global strategic marketing for Abbott Diabetes where he shaped the commercialization and innovation strategy for the FreeStyle Libre platform. As the new chief executive officer of Intuity Medical, he is well-positioned to lead the company forward into the next decade and beyond.
George Zamanakos is a seasoned leader with broad commercial leadership experience in glucose monitoring innovations, previously serving as divisional vice president of global strategic marketing for Abbott Diabetes, where he had global responsibilities for the company’s multibillion-dollar diabetes business and shaped the commercialization and innovation strategy for the FreeStyle Libre platform. Prior to that, he was general manager of SweetSpot, a division of Dexcom, and director of strategic marketing for LifeScan, formerly a division of Johnson & Johnson.
He has also served as a board observer at DreamSaga LLC and Bigfoot Biomedical, and has extensive digital solutions expertise. He has a strong track record of successful product launches, and has led a variety of digital strategies including the development and implementation of new platforms that integrate with consumer health data.
