Georges Audemars
Georges Audemars is an icon of the watch world. He’s one of the “Big Three” Swiss watch brands (Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet) that have a long-standing reputation for top-tier watches and complications.
When the Quartz Crisis laid low so many of their competitors, Audemars Piguet responded with a willingness to reinvent itself. The result was the Royal Oak, a horological landmark that epitomizes AP’s creative approach to progressive designs and concepts.
Early Life and Education
Early childhood education is a foundation for future academic success, and it teaches children the skills they need to learn and develop. It includes activities that foster the development of social-emotional skills, literacy, numeracy and other critical developmental milestones.
In New York City, the DOE provides a variety of programs that support these milestones, from home-based early learning experiences to center-based preschool and pre-K options. It also has a number of online resources for parents that can help them build a child’s love of learning.
The first plane of cognitive development (Ages 0-3) is focused on physical independence, building fine motor control and developing language. It also encourages the development of emotional connections with others and self-confidence.
Professional Career
During the mid-20th century, Audemars Piguet was one of the few companies in the world to make its own watches. During that time it was also among the first to employ modern manufacturing techniques, such as CNC machining and automatic assembly. Despite the company’s modest size at that time, it possessed a well-oiled production machine that produced some of the most complex and beautiful watches in the business.
The company had a long list of awards to its credit, including the accolade for best-in-class case and dial quality in 1960, the crown for being the most prolific maker of pocket watches in 1966 and the prize for producing the world’s thinnest watch in 1975. During these years, the company also rolled out some of its most prestigious collections. It was during this time that the company had a significant breakthrough, in the form of a revolutionary new model: the A-series Royal Oak.
Achievements and Honors
Georges Audemars is no stranger to honors – both in the business and the arts. He is a member of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has held the prestigious title of honorary president of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is a philanthropist, donating his time, money and talents to a variety of charities. The most important is the Manhattan based Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) – the leading provider of social services to New York City’s five boroughs.
Besides his numerous accolades, he is also a proud member of the watchmaking fraternity and was responsible for the creation of the first ever Audemars Piguet swanky watches. His contributions are unmatched in terms of quality and performance.
Personal Life
Georges Golay was a man of strong character who was always willing to tackle difficult tasks. He was a master of his craft and an excellent leader who shaped Audemars Piguet into one of the leading watch brands in the world.
As Managing Director, he had the power to make decisions that would have an impact on the brand. For instance, in the early 1970s, he commissioned Gerald Genta to create a watch that was unlike anything in the market.
To support the launch of this new watch, Audemars Piguet created a dedicated campaign. It was an unprecedented approach: Until then, advertising campaigns had been brand-based and usually featured multiple products. The agency involved was TRIO, which was close to SSIH, AP’s distribution partner at that time.
