Gwen Casten, 17, Passed Away Last Week

Gwen Casten was a 17 year old girl who died last week at the age of seventeen. She was found unresponsive at her family’s home after returning from an evening out with friends. Her death was reported by the local police. The DuPage County coroner’s office is still investigating the cause of her death. A full report on the case has been released by the Downers Grove Police Department, but so far there isn’t much detail about what happened.

Casten’s father, Illinois Congressman Sean Casten, was deeply saddened by the news of her passing. He expressed his love for his daughter and said she was a wonderful, exemplary student. She was also very involved in her school and her community.

As a high school student, Gwen was a vocal leader. She co-founded the Empowerment Club, which gave students the chance to speak about important issues like gun violence and environmental rights. After graduating from high school, Gwen planned to study Environmental Science at the University of Vermont. She also participated in several political campaigns with her father. Among these, she worked as a co-director of the March for Our Lives Illinois chapter.

As a high school senior, Gwen was a leader of the DGN Empowerment Club, a group that worked on voter registration and other important issues. She was also an active participant in the Black Lives Matter movement. In addition, she was involved with the March for Our Lives campaign, which is organized by survivors of the Parkland shooting.

As a young teenager, Gwen was a trumpet player for the school musical groups. She was a part of the Wind Ensemble and the principal trumpet player for the Wind Ensemble. In the spring of 2022, she appeared in the school’s production of Mary Poppins.

Gwen was the eldest child in the Casten family. She was a student at Downers Grove North High School. She played the trumpet and enjoyed being a part of the school’s musical groups.
