Harvey Mason Jr. – Producer, Songwriter, and Film Producer

The son of jazz drummer Harvey Mason Sr., he has had a successful career as a producer, songwriter, and film producer. He has written songs for many superstars, including Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears. During his career, he has produced songs for television shows and musical films, and has earned six Grammy Awards.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Mason grew up surrounded by music and his father’s success. Both his parents are professional musicians and attended Berklee College of Music. His father is a jazz drummer, while his mother is a singer. As a child, Mason had his first writing credit at the age of eight. However, his earliest production work came later, in the 2000s. Eventually, Mason joined his father’s recording sessions in L.A., and he started his own production company.

While Mason was growing up, he had a lot of opportunities to play basketball. Mason was a member of the University of Arizona’s basketball team. He also played in the NBA Entertainment League. Mason was chosen to be on the National Basketball Association’s All-Star Team, and he was a member of the NBA’s All-Star Game.

In the late 1990s, Mason began writing music for films. Initially, he collaborated with Victoria Beckham on her debut album. This led to a collaboration with Rodney Jerkins’ Darkchild Entertainment. Among his credits are a number of projects for Victoria Beckham and the LeBron James movie for Lionsgate.

After working with several popular performers in the music industry, Mason branched out into movie production in the early 2000s. He helped produce the LeBron James film for Lionsgate and the Respect biopic for MGM. Several of his songs were nominated for Oscars in the same year. He also served as executive producer of the soundtrack.

Besides being a songwriter and film producer, Mason has been elected to the National Board of Trustees of the Recording Academy. He serves as the Chairperson of the National Advocacy Committee. In addition, he is the Executive Co-chair of the Producers and Engineers Wing. He has participated in various Grammy Foundation events and Grammy in the Schools.

As a leader, Mason has reformed the Recording Academy’s voting processes and is an advocate for diversity in the membership body. A recent move by the Academy has led to more accurate results, which have improved the Academy’s standing in the music industry. Currently, he is the interim CEO of the organization.

Mason is currently the CEO of the Harvey Mason Media company, a film and television production studio that has also been credited with revitalizing the Evergreen Stage movie theater in downtown Los Angeles. It was originally built as a movie theater in the late 1940s, but has since been remodeled into a new recording studio. Many of Mason’s walls feature platinum albums and major motion pictures.

Among the upcoming projects of Mason are three movies. They are slated to hit the big screen in 2020. Some of his previous projects include the music for Pitch Perfect, the movie Sparkle, and a music-infused film called More Than a Game.
