Jack Waldrop Passes Away After A Weeklong Manhunt

Jack Waldrop, 53, was arrested after a weeklong manhunt in California and was wanted for kidnapping his Kennewick girlfriend and threatening to kill both her and himself, according to court records.

He specializes in corporate transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions and venture capital deals for public and private companies as well as partnerships, limited liability companies and high-net-worth individuals.

Early Life and Education

Jack Waldrop was an accomplished Scottish swimmer who broke several world records during the early 1950s. Later he served Auburn University as athletic trainer, investing himself into many students over an 11-year span as both teacher and counselor. Known as an influential educator and counselor.

Waldrop played and toured with the Grammy nominated UNT One O’Clock Lab Band during his time in Denton. Additionally, he studied under legendary drum virtuosos Robert Schietroma, Ron Fink, Ed Soph, Henry Okstel and Kal Cherry for further education on drumming virtuosity.

In the mid-1990s, he relocated to Colorado where he served as principal percussionist with the Grand Junction Symphony and director of Western Colorado Jazz Orchestra as well as being part of Bob Curnow Big Band and continuing his education by studying under legendary jazz pianist Gene Rush.

Professional Career

Jack Waldrop is an award-winning professional football player, receiving three All-American honors and being recognized twice as Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, he was honored to make multiple All-Canadian teams. Additionally, his long list of accomplishments include three bowl appearances, two national championship wins, Bednarik and Nagurski awards as well as his numerous All-Canadian selections.

He settled in the Northwest in 2006, joining Eastern Washington University’s faculty where he has built one of the nation’s premier percussion programs. As well as playing jazz drums and marimba he is an active composer.

He has performed and recorded extensively with UNT’s Grammy nominated One O’Clock Lab Band, touring extensively and recording one or two times per month. A skilled hand drummer himself, he has studied under some of the greatest hand percussionists worldwide.

Achievement and Honors

Waldrop was a towering figure for Desert Swarm defense. He earned unanimous All-America recognition during his junior year and three First Team All Pac-10 selections; also, two-time Morris Trophy recipients who led them to three bowl appearances with Wildcats.

Jack was an Olympic swimmer who held the record for 220 yard freestyle swimming between 1954 and 1955, setting new world speeds each time and breaking his own records in both events. Additionally, he won medals at both British Empire Games and Commonwealth Games.

Jack was born in 1949 and died on April 1991 at 41. He resided at 2231 Potomac Pl in Lawrenceville GA 30043 for 29 years before moving back home to Scotland as part of the Scottish Swimming Hall of Fame.

Personal Life

Surviving family members include: one daughter and her family; two sons and their families; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, ten special nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. A memorial service will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Villa Rica.
