He had an impressive start to the season, finishing second at Anaheim 1 and winning Oakland. From then on he won in San Diego and Atlanta as well as 11 podium appearances – although unfortunately a disastrous crash cost him 17th position overall.

On July 14th 2003, the Staten Island Yankees honored his achievement by retiring his jersey number 19. This was truly a momentous occasion as he was the first player from Staten Island ever to make it into Major League baseball.

Taking over the points lead in Houston during round 2, Anderson then proceeded to dominate with 11 podium finishes over his nine races – earning himself the nickname ‘El Hombre’ due to his relentless riding style.
