Early Life and Education

John was born in Plattsmouth, Cass County, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm and later became an attorney.

He was educated at St. Stephen’s Church of England School in Richmond, Melbourne and Scotch College in Melbourne, Australia. He was a talented and intelligent child.
