The biggest challenge is keeping up with an ever-increasing number of clients, some of which have the luxury of time. He has a reputation for being both a gentleman and a doting father who takes his job seriously to the core. The best part is that he has the good fortune to have an equally supportive and affable wife.

Personal Life

John was born in London to William Gurdon, a member of an old Suffolk family who traces their roots back to 1199. Their motto was virtus viget in arduis, or ‘virtue flourishes in adversity’.

He started working as an assistant lecturer in the zoology department at Oxford, a post that provided minimal teaching duties and allowed him to establish his own research group. This gave him a sense of autonomy that was crucial to his later professional life.

During his time in university, JBG made many friends and contacts, including Miriam Rothschild, who provided him with ski mountaineering holidays.
