John Gacy was a serial killer who was known as the “killer clown”. He was born in 1942 and his father was an auto repair machinist and a World War I veteran.
He grew up in a normal blue-collar family but he had a troubled bond with his father who was an alcoholic and an abuser. He was cruel and brutal with him and would beat him for no reason.
Early Life and Education
John Wayne Gacy was born in Chicago, Illinois. He had a difficult childhood that was characterized by verbal abuse from his father.
After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Northwestern Business College and eventually received his bachelor’s degree. He then went on to work as a management trainee for the Nunn-Bush Shoe Company in Springfield, Illinois.
He became involved in local community organizations, and joined the Jaycees. He also started a construction business that employed teenage boys.
After a short stint in prison, Gacy was released on parole in 1970. He immediately moved back to the Chicago area and started living a relatively normal life. He volunteered at hospitals and performed as Pogo the Clown at parties. He married a woman and had two children with her.

Each is presented annually to an individual whose character embodies the conviction, innovation, and dedication of the deceased’s lifelong service to the College.

After his release from prison, john dacy started a new life in Chicago, where he re-married and became involved with the community. He threw elaborate block parties, volunteered for local civic organizations, and built a reputation as a community leader.
While in Chicago, he also made up an alter ego named Pogo the Clown, which he used to support himself. He often dressed up as this character at local parties and hospital visits.
Gacy eventually married Marlynn Myers in 1964 and moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where he worked for his father-in-law’s Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises. They had two children, but in 1969, Myers petitioned for a divorce. She subsequently took full custody of their children.
