John has dedicated his career to improving the lives of people with disabilities. As a world record holder in non-stop wheelchair wheelies, he has become an advocate for those affected by disabilities around the globe.
Early Life and Education
John Hensel was raised in a middle-class German family, where his father encouraged him to pursue higher education. John proved to be an exceptional student in all areas of academics – particularly musical composition.
He was an accomplished pianist, having studied with top performers in Berlin and Paris. Additionally, he studied composition with Carl F. Zelter – a renowned composer who had collaborated with both Hensel and Mendelssohn – who had worked extensively with Hensel’s orchestra as well as that of Mendelssohn’s.
He was an influential leader and educator within the Young Men’s Christian Association (Y. M. C. A.), founding the first Young Men’s Christian association in Peoria and inspiring similar organizations around the country. As a renowned educator and leader, he received many awards and honors throughout his life; unfortunately, he passed away at 79 years old, leaving behind his wife and children to mourn his passing.

John Hensel is the Chief Operating Officer of Securrency, a leader in blockchain-based financial and regulatory technology development. Based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, he oversees global business operations for the company.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and then relocated to Southern California where he has since worked on numerous projects for clients such as the Federal Government, local municipalities, general contractors and architects.
On Wednesday night at Melbourne Park, Kaden Hensel advanced out of his group in the wildcard playoff with a 6-1, 7-6, 6-1 victory over James Duckworth. Hensel will now face Matt Reid in the quarterfinals.

A member of Melrose High School’s class of 1946, John served in the U.S. Navy, and worked as a life insurance salesman before retiring.
Despite her accomplishments, she was almost entirely forgotten by the music world until the 1990s. Her scores had been stored away in Felix Mendelssohn’s archives before then and her manuscripts remained in private collections for over a century.
Hensel’s music was rediscovered in the 1990s, and some recordings of her works were made. However, many remain unreleased due to being classified as “non-classical.” Fortunately, conditions have improved over time and soon all of Hensel’s works will be released.
