Early Life and Education
A child of WWII concentration camp survivors, Oda has shown a commitment to keeping the legacy of Japanese American incarceration alive. As president of the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center and the Tuna Canyon Detention Station Coalition, she led a group of advocates in efforts to gain recognition for the former site of a detention facility that housed more than 2,000 individuals during WWII.
Her accomplishments have been numerous, including developing a traveling exhibition to tell the story of Tuna Canyon. In addition, she received the Spring 2020 Decoration award from the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles for her meritorious service toward Japan.
