Early Life and Education

Children learn a great deal about themselves and the world around them during the early years of life. They encounter many new experiences which shape their future, such as developing cognitive abilities, social interactions and moral perspectives.

It is essential that children feel secure and loved, with strong, responsive relationships between caregivers and families. This can promote healthy development in kids and enable them to succeed academically – leading to positive effects for society as a whole.

UNESCO believes that investing in early childhood care and education (ECCE) that is truly inclusive is one of the best investments a country can make, as it promotes holistic development, gender equality and social cohesion. By understanding how children’s experiences from birth affect their learning capacity, behaviors as well as mental and physical health, we can work together to design policies which improve these outcomes for children, their communities and future generations.
