Celebrity Biography – Karson Thomas

Kelley Thomas went in for an ultrasound 25 weeks into her pregnancy and doctors noticed something amiss. They informed her of Gordon Syndrome which causes cleft palate and clubfeet, as well as DiGeorge syndrome which affects immunity, development, and lung function.

Karson Thomas wrote three goals on a white board prior to beginning his senior season, and accomplished each of them. He credits his family, coaches and teammates with shaping him into the player he is today.

Early Life and Education

At Holy Cross, Thomas became a leader of the Black Student Union and engaged in political activism by attending anti-war protests and rallying to defend civil rights.

President Ronald Reagan appointed Thomas to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), where he handled employment discrimination complaints. At Senate hearings, Thomas came under criticism from Black leaders due to his conservative viewpoints regarding affirmative action and school integration through busing.

George H.W. Bush nominated Thomas to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, an appointment often used as an early stepping stone toward Supreme Court eligibility. Thomas was confirmed by the Senate. During his time on this court he issued several 5-4 decisions that dealt with important constitutional questions such as Burwell v Hobby Lobby Stores wherein close corporations could invoke religious liberty exemptions to refuse federally mandated coverage of contraceptives.

Professional Career

Thomas served as law clerk to Missouri state attorney general John (“Jack”) Danforth (a Republican), in Jefferson City. It was during this time that Thomas began to exhibit increasingly conservative beliefs and oppose policies such as affirmative action and school integration through busing which, he believed, were detrimental to black interests.

Thomas then joined Dewey & LeBoeuf law firm in St. Louis; however, this did not last long before moving onto private practice in Savannah Georgia.
