Kathi Thomas was an devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 40 years as well as their children and granddaughter who will all miss her greatly.

Her strong work ethic and desire to help others led to teaching, which she loved dearly. Until her retirement in 2022, she shared her enthusiasm for learning and growth with students – making her one of the most beloved educators.

Kathi Thomas is an accomplished marketing professional with extensive experience working on both national and local brands. Additionally, Kathi has served on various boards and committees such as Utah Advertising Federation, Arthritis Foundation Utah/Idaho Chapter Board and Clay County OB/GYN Associates’ Governing Board.

As a leader of her community, she has focused on spreading hope through charitable work in areas such as veterans’ aid, children with special needs, animals protection, as well as longtime head mentoring for public school 5th graders and participating in blood donation programs.

She has international experience through the Mandela Washington Fellowship and YALI RLC Southern Africa programs, where she collaborated with both African and American leaders to foster growth, promote democratic governance, and secure sustainable economic prosperity across both continents.

Achievement and Honors

Kathi Thomas was instrumental in founding Dominican Volunteers USA (DVUSA). Along with other founderesses, she shared their wisdom to create a non-profit that would foster community, service and prayer.

Hiram College recognized her athletic talent with All-President’s Athletic Conference honors for basketball, field hockey and softball during her time on the team from 1983-1988. Involved with Cardinal Key and Aqua Parade participation as well as Student Council Playmakers and Westernettes services.

She has won multiple honors and awards, such as the Newbery Honor Award and PEN USA Literature for Young Adults award. Additionally, her novel The Hate U Give was an international bestseller and later made into a film adaptation.

Personal Life

Kathi is well known as a pro-life activist, having testified before both Congress and state legislatures and providing legal assistance to many state prosecutors. Additionally, Kathi has been heavily involved with charity and community work as an active board member of Clay County We Care program and Board of Community Health Outreach – two initiatives providing dental and medical care to uninsured people as well as meals and basic necessities to the homeless population.

She has been an active volunteer with Playmakers of Davis County and holds an avid interest in children’s education; serving both as teacher and preschool administrator.

She currently resides at 8985 S Eastern Avenue Unit 130 in Las Vegas NV 89123 of Clark county and has lived there for 12 years.
