Kelly Slater Signed Surfboard
If you’re a fan of the surfing life, you might have heard of Kelly Slater. His Kelly Slater Wave Company is based in Hawaii, and is home to one of the world’s longest open barrel human-made waves. In addition to promoting surf sports, the company has a philanthropic component. A portion of their profits goes to SurfAid, a non-profit organization that aims to improve the lives of children in the developing world. They have a number of programs, including Mother and Child Health Programs. They also operate the San Onofre Parks Foundation, which enhances the recreational experience of California’s unique coastal parks.
The Ohana Luau, which is being hosted by Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder, is a private fundraiser for the San Onofre Parks Foundation. It’s a fun event that blends ocean and surfing culture. There will be a live auction, a live performance by Vedder, and a dinner. The best part is that you’ll be able to check out the priceless surfboards that are on loan from the Surfing Heritage and Cultural Center. The Luau is held at the Laguna Niguel Ritz-Carlton in Dana Point, CA. Several pro surfers have donated their favorite surfboards to the cause.
The Pledgeling Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, has also donated a surfboard to the Ohana Luau. Their website describes the board as a “funny-shaped trough-style ‘bowl’.” This ad hoc board is a fun way to say thanks to the many surfers who have donated to the cause. Fortunately, the surfboard’s buyer has yet to be revealed, so we have no idea how much it cost.
The Pledgeling Foundation has a lot to offer, from its fancy name to its slick logo, but its most intriguing prize is the naming of a new product: the Pledgeling Foundation Proboard. This is a first-of-its-kind, a surfboard designed and manufactured by Kelly Slater. The new model, which is currently being tested and will be released later this year, has a built-in water reservoir, which means it will be able to stay in the water longer. And it will look mighty fine, too.
The ole’ fashioned surfboard, the aforementioned Pledgeling Foundation Proboard, the best-selling Pearl Jam CD, and the Kelly Slater aforementioned Pledgeling me-me-moment are just a few of the many perks of attending the Ohana Luau. In fact, you might want to go to the event next weekend if you can swing it. The luau is the brainchild of Synergy Global Entertainment, a production company that specializes in entertainment events.
