Liam McLinskey
Liam McLinskey
Liam McLinskey is the kind of player any team would aspire to have on its squad. Hailing from Pearl River, New York and playing for Jersey Hitmen for three seasons before winning NCDC Dineen Cup playoff championship 2021 with Jersey Hitmen. After playing only two games as freshman with Quinnipiac Bobcats before entering transfer portal and being noticed by Holy Cross coach Bill Riga at Holy Cross.
Early Life and Education
Liam Clinskey hails from Pearl River, New York and graduated from Don Bosco Prep. In three seasons as part of Don Bosco team he scored 21 goals to claim Non-Public B championship title.
He was selected by the New Jersey Hitmen during the 2021 NHL Entry Draft as a versatile forward who can play on either side of the ice, skating with grace and scoring often.
McLinskey had limited action during his freshman season at Quinnipiac due to a deep roster, so this season he’s expected to see increased playing time.
Professional Career
Liam McLinskey is an agile, strong-shooting center who can adapt his game to play anywhere on the ice. Born and raised in Pearl River, New York – McLinskey averaged one point per game with the New Jersey Hitmen of the National Collegiate Development Conference before moving on to Quinnipiac University as a freshman player.
At last summer’s Red Wings 2023 development camp, he impressed everyone with his goal-scoring ability and competed against recent NHL draft picks and free agent signings. While his all-around game is impressive, his size will need to be kept an eye on.
McLinskey was instrumental in Team Osaer winning the 3-on-3 tournament of Detroit Hockey Now’s prospect tournament, thanks to his poise and smooth skating. A natural goal-scorer with an uncanny knack for being at just the right spot at just the right time, McLinskey made sure Team Osaer came away victorious in every matchup played against them during the three days.
Achievement and Honors
January was an impressive month for him, earning him MVP honors at both Bergen County Tournaments as well as surpassing 200 points for the season, a mark only few have attained in Ironmen history.
Holy Cross coach Bill Riga took note of his scoring and production as Holy Cross defeated American International in a best-of-three quarterfinal series. Riga recognized Riga’s contributions when his Crusaders overtook them and won.
This victory set up a showdown against top-seed Rochester Institute of Technology this weekend. The Crusaders currently lead in their best-of-three semifinal series 1-0; McLinskey scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Sunday to give his side an advantage; since then he has netted nine goals in six postseason games! Due to his outstanding play he earned himself an invite to Detroit Red Wings 2023 Development Camp; where he will join other rookies and NHL draft picks during training camp sessions.
Personal Life
After only playing two games for Quinnipiac as a freshman due to their depth chart constraints, McLinskey decided to transfer and quickly caught Holy Cross head coach Bill Riga’s eye. Since making his move he has flourished under Bill Riga’s tutelage scoring 12 times while dishing out four assists – playing an instrumental role in Holy Cross’ Atlantic Hockey postseason run!
McLinskey was an offensive force during his two final seasons at Don Bosco Prep, scoring more than 50 points each season and helping lead them to three Non-Public titles.
