Early Life and Education
Liliana Thomas was born and raised in Washington, DC. As an alumni of Dunbar High School where she excelled both academically and athletically. Additionally, she performed in multiple musicals and plays.
She enjoys painting, pottery and other forms of artistic expression during her free time, along with camping trips and supporting local fundraisers as well as volunteering at veterans homes.
Liliana Porter is a visual artist renowned for creating surreal compositions that subvert reality and representation. Her practice encompasses printmaking, photography, painting and installation and often incorporates an eccentric cast of toys and miniature figures to form theatrical vignettes which provoke existential reflection on human experience.
Professional Career
Liliana began working in government contracting since 2013. At US Federal Contractor Registration, her role is to assist businesses with assessing their objectives and matching them up with appropriate resources such as System for Award Management (SAM) registration or USFCR Turnkey Consulting services.
She has participated in multiple projects involving hydrological modeling to facilitate water resource assessments and policy formation at basin to continental scales, conducting research in snow processes, climate change and water quality issues.
Thomas will likely compete against Ole Miss graduate transfer Jessica Puk for Arizona State’s starting catcher position. A native of Honolulu, she competed at Maryknoll before spending last summer and fall competing against elite-level national competition as part of Firecrackers Brashear 16-and-under club.
Achievement and Honors
Thomas was named 2021 Gatorade Hawaii Softball Player of the Year after excelling as an elite two-way player at shortstop and centerfielder (SS/C). Her bat has powerful bat speed with gap-to-gap power; using athletic stance, center balance and short stride she generates fast bat speed; her quickness on defense provides fluid range with solid footwork and great hand-eye coordination as she excelled against elite competition on national levels with Firecrackers Brashear 16&Under team against elite competition (nationally).
The Shannon Schieber Memorial Prize recognizes students who exemplify Catholic social teaching in their pursuit of social justice. Shannon herself volunteers her time at both a local veterans home and Maryknoll High School. She holds a 3.31 GPA.
Personal Life
Liliana Mumy was married to SFC Thomas Harold Fisher for over four decades, traveling the world and living on various military bases including Ft Monmouth NJ. An avid reader, Liliana enjoyed cooking especially chicken cacciatore and soup for family and friends and was also an active member of St Michael’s RC Church in Long Branch.
Thomas has contributed her time and talent to her community and raising money for cancer research, volunteering at veterans homes and maintaining a 3.31 GPA in class. She recently made an official verbal commitment to play softball on scholarship at Arizona State University starting fall 2021 and will compete against Ole Miss graduate transfer Jessica Puk for selection as starting catcher for ASU.
