Each release is meant to be a showcase of the most notable aspects of each rickhouse. The stave, or “magic wand,” can alter the flavor of the whiskey, making it possible to make multiple batches from a single barrel.

The Wood Finishing Series also contains the best of both worlds, such as the Maker’s Mark FAE-02, which is a fine bourbon and the most notable bourbon of the series. This particular release was made using Maker’s Mark limestone bourbon cellar and a full-matured cask strength Maker’s Mark. The FAE-02’s flavors ring true, including flora, spice and a surprisingly savory woodiness.

The Maker’s 46’s signature flavor is an intriguing combination of vanilla, spice, and dry fruit. It is bottled at 47% alcohol by volume. It is available in limited quantities in select markets.

The bourbon’s flavor profile

Using 10 oak finishing staves, Maker’s Mark Private Select Idaho Director’s Cut Bourbon adds a layer of complexity to Maker’s Mark cask strength. In addition to the woody flavor and dry oak spice of the distillery’s main expressions, this limited release also possesses a floral bomb and a medium-long sweet finish.

Maker’s Mark Private Select Idaho Director’s Cut Batch #4 is a sweet floral bomb, with a medium-long sweet finish and herbal wheatiness. Its fortified sherry wine notes are also apparent. The bourbon has a creamy, viscous texture and an 85/100 score.

The Maker’s Mark Wood Finishing Series 2021 Limited Release FAE-01 is the first of two complementary bourbons, released in March. It features a rich, full-bodied texture and intense barrel-aged fruitiness. It’s also got a rich, dark molasses aroma and smoky barrel char.
