New Plymouth, New Zealand, has four distinct seasons. There are three wet seasons: the wet season (January, February, and March) and the drier season (June 4 – Oct 24). In general, the month with the highest chances of precipitation is December, with an average of 7.3 days with at least 0.04 inches of precipitation.

New Plymouth receives very little precipitation in total, but there are some months that are more humid than others. In November, there are 5.6 days of rain alone, with a peak probability of twenty percent on November 11. During the same month, there are a variety of temperatures. The shortest day in New Plymouth is December 21, and the hottest day is June 21.

The cold season lasts for 2.9 months. The average high temperature in December is below forty-seven degrees Fahrenheit. However, the hottest months for water sports are July and August. If you’re planning on swimming at a swimming pool or visiting the beach, mid July to mid-August is the most desirable time to visit. The high and low temperatures are the most pleasant during this time.

New Plymouth is a coastal city. Despite the relatively flat land, the topography is quite varied. Within a two-mile radius, the land is nearly ninety percent cropland. Within ten miles of the city, the land is primarily grassland and shrubland.

The daytime temperatures are moderate and comfortable, with daytime temperatures around seventy-six degrees Fahrenheit, and lows around thirty-seven degrees. The wind speed is northwest at seven to eight miles per hour and increases to five miles per hour at night. It is also possible to experience some rain at night, though the amount is small and does not exceed half an inch. The weather in New Plymouth is often influenced by pollution levels.
