Conor Geekie is a No. 1 Prospect in the NHL
Strathclair, Manitoba — Even on an icy night like tonight in Strathclair, Winnipeg Ice Center Conor Geekie is out skating to his heart’s content.
Geekie is one of three Geekie brothers with NHL aspirations. Morgan Geekie currently plays for Seattle Kraken while their father Craig played Tier II hockey with Brandon Wheat Kings and Spokane Chiefs.
Early Life and Education
Morgan Geekie hails from a family with a strong athletic heritage. His father, Craig, provided baseball and hockey coaching for all three of his kids as well as helping organize youth league teams; sports were an integral part of life; never missing a game!
Conor is an exceptional ice hockey player for the Winnipeg Ice of the Western Hockey League, while middle brother Noah opted for baseball after being chosen as a second-round selection by Calgary Hitmen during 2015 WHL bantam draft. Now with Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Academy for his Grade 12 year.
He hopes that will help him fulfill his ambition of playing in the NHL, though he knows there will be challenges along his journey. But he remains determined and passionate in his goal.
Geekie was an understated player who knew just how to find ways to win, making his presence felt instantly when he joined Carolina in 2022. On his debut against Pittsburgh Penguins he scored two goals that gave Carolina an edge they wouldn’t relinquish.
Geekie hails from Strathclair, Manitoba – population 150 – where his humble upbringing makes an impactful statement about him and his brothers Morgan (also in the NHL) and Conor as prominent leaders within their community.
Geekie made his Western Hockey League (WHL) debut with Tri-City Americans during 2015-16, scoring 35 goals and 90 points to garner attention from Carolina Hurricanes management.
Achievement and Honors
Conor Geekie, the youngest brother, appears to be on his way to becoming one of hockey’s rising stars after he was selected 41st overall by Calgary Hitmen in 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. Morgan Geekie plays for Seattle Kraken of NHL while Conor has his sights set on WHL hockey as an emerging prospect.
Noah made his mark in baseball and is currently playing at Emporia State University, leading their Cougars team in average, hits (74), doubles and triples in his freshman season.
After making two appearances on the mound this season, he focused most of his efforts in outfield play this year. Hoping for additional innings this summer with Okotoks Dawgs. A physical education major at university, his wife Emma played hockey at Regina.
Geekie and Emma, his longtime partners since university days, are inseparable and very close. Gabby was named after them both – both are stunning beauty!
Geekie hails from Strathclair, Manitoba where he spent much of his youth playing both hockey and baseball. His older brother Noah currently serves as goaltender with Calgary Hitmen of the WHL while Conor currently plays for Winnipeg Ice of the AHL.
Geekie was selected 67th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Last summer he spent time playing with the WCBL Dawgs as one of their key contributors towards winning their championship – making seven relief appearances on the mound and 19 outfield games, hitting.256 with four RBIs and a stolen base during his time there.
2022 NHL draft prospect Josh Rettke is an excellent goaltending prospect with an excellent shot that projects to the next level. Furthermore, his hands are exceptional for someone of his size allowing him to dangle around defenders while using his passing ability to create opportunities.
Geekie was born in Strathclair, Manitoba and began his preparation at five. One of his inspirations for choosing American hockey as his profession is his father Craig who played professionally before retiring.
Geekie signed his agreement with Virden Oil Capitals in September 2020. A committed individual, Geekie frequently posts beautiful moments from his relationship on social media with girlfriend. They met while attending University of Strathclair and are regularly seen together – their bond continues to blossom despite distance. Now planning to take it further with each passing day!
