Early Life and Education
Gertrude Oliver was the second of J.D. and Anna Oliver’s four children and shared her mother’s values of being sensitive, thoughtful, and considerate. Additionally, Gertrude received an excellent education having graduated both South Bend Central High School in Indiana as well as Mrs Davis Finishing School of Briarcliff Manor in New York.
Gertrude married Charles Frederick Cunningham from Patterson, New Jersey. Together they made Copshaholm in South Bend their primary home. She served on the Board of Oliver Chilled Plow Works until its dissolution in 1929 as both trustee and director.
