Early Life and Education
Dockery made her return to TV as Lady Mary Crawley for the critically and commercially successful Downton Abbey film adaptation, Good Behaviour, where she attempted to avoid jail by engaging in illegal schemes to stay out. Also in 2019, Steven Soderbergh’s Western miniseries Godless featured Dockery prominently. Additionally, she reprised her role from Downton Abbey film (also acclaimed).
Dockery first made his first public appearance in 1822 when he was elected to Richmond County’s House of Commons. Years later he attended and served as a delegate at North Carolina’s Constitutional Convention of 1835 where, according to John W. Moore’s Early Baptist Laymen of North Carolina, he took side with Supreme Court Justice William Gaston against any restriction placed upon Protestants within its constitution. Since then he devoted most of his life to farming and expanding his estate.
Professional Career
Derrick Dockery spent ten seasons playing professional football, mainly with the Redskins, Bills, and Cowboys. While his lack of prototypical size hindered him at times, Dockery was nonetheless considered an exemplary NFL player and rarely missed a game during his first four years with any club; thus remaining an always available.
Methodist PGA Golf Management program was experiencing rapid expansion and needed an experienced superintendent to oversee renovations on their course, which is not open to the general public but serves as an educational tool for their students.
He and Kirbie had four children together: Maggie and Henry Fields as daughters; sons Shealie and Trevor Ek as sons; six grandsons and granddaughters as grandchildren. In addition to them he is survived by both of his parents as well as sister-in-law Karen Huebner.
Achievement and Honors
Dockery received both the Distinguished Graduate Award and Alexander Nininger Award for Valor at Arms during a ceremony at West Point in New York. Nininger is considered to be the third-highest award (behind Thayer and Distinguished Graduate Awards), given out annually by West Point Association of Graduates to graduates who exhibit courage while serving their profession of arms.
Dockery received the Third Region Coach of the Year award after leading his team to a 20-12 overall record and an undefeated 8-0 mark in district play in just his inaugural year as head coach at Butler County High School boys’ basketball.
Captain Dockery deployed to Afghanistan as an Infantry rifle platoon leader for Company C of 2nd Battalion 12th Infantry (4th Brigade Combat Team), 4th Infantry Division in 2012. While on patrol in Kapisa Province’s Tagab District he came under fire from an organized Taliban force and received serious wounds as a result of this engagement.
Personal Life
Bernadette Dockery and daughter Dawn Duckworth remain his loved ones; Keith Duckworth, Vickie Warns and Steven Dockery Jr are his cherished grandchildren while great-grandparenting Brittany Duckworth and Cassidy Warns will always hold fond memories. Additionally he was proud uncle to five nieces and nephews.
After Downton Abbey concluded, Dockery went on to appear in US drama Good Behaviour as a lawless con artist; spent months filming Godless by Steven Soderbergh; and made her first appearance in Julian Fellowes’s The Sense of an Ending – each show taking her far away from playing Lady Mary Crawley; nonetheless her performances were widely lauded.
Recently, she landed a lead role in this Town – a BBC drama from Peaky Blinders creator Steve Knight – as part of its six-part series about an extended family whose lives become interwoven with two-tone music, an eclectic genre which fused traditional Jamaican ska with punk and new wave during the 70s and 80s.
