Early Life and Education

Steve Eason grew up in central Islip on Long Island. His mother worked as a crossing guard while his father drove a postal truck driver; their family wasn’t wealthy but had everything necessary for an enjoyable upbringing.

He has served Presbyterian churches of various sizes and attended Duke Divinity School before publishing Making Disciples, Making Leaders with Geneva Press.

Every week he hosts Hardcore Troubadour Radio on Sirius satellite radio’s Outlaw Country channel. This show differs from traditional music shows in that Steve plays what he likes while sharing bits of musical theory; his own songs as well as covers by other artists are showcased on this broadcast which airs Monday through Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. ET.

Professional Career

Eason first joined the New England Patriots as a backup to Steve Grogan in 1986 and participated in their inaugural Super Bowl appearance, only to lose to John Elway and Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XX.

He served as head of a division at Air Products and Chemicals in the US, overseeing multiple sites. Additionally, he held roles at both corporate level as well as global process technology management within Honeywell.

On Sunday, Steven Eason’s family hosted a memorial basketball tournament to commemorate his life and that he wasn’t able to enjoy fully. This tournament, organized by his former coach, marked its inaugural showing of its kind held in his name.

Achievement and Honors

Eason feels called to share what he has learned over his 12 years leading one of Charlotte’s largest churches with others, so he will begin as director of consulting services for Atlanta-based Macedonian Ministries where he will teach and coach clergy.

As well as running his business, he is an avid sports fan and volunteer coach for various youth programs. Additionally, he is well-known as an influential public speaker and motivational coach.

Jake Luton of Oregon State grew up about 10 minutes apart in Lake Stevens and Marysville-Pilchuck high schools, competing against each other as high school teammates before meeting each other again at college level last season when Washington defeated Oregon State 19-7.
