Thomas Hartford, 69, of Western Springs, Ga., Passes Away

Hartford’s father reported that after attending a Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity event on Jan. 9 at their house, Hartford spent time socializing with friends in his house before going back out again the following evening to stay socializing with more.

Thomas Bliss Jr was listed in early Hartford records as one of its founders; however, Hale confounds him with Thomas from Saybrook and Norwich who married Elizabeth Birchard – potentially confusing his identity with that of Bliss Jr.

Early Life and Education

Thomas Hartford was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He attended Navity of Our Lord School before attending De La Salle High School and Lewis University for studies. Thomas then worked as a civil construction contractor in Chicago while simultaneously serving his time with the Marines for five years.

Jim Lee has had his work featured in both national and international exhibitions of print and artist’s book art. Its prints and books are now part of several important museum collections, while he currently lives in Hartford CT with his wife and two children.

Thomas Hartford has made an impactful mark in the civil construction industry for nearly 40 years, working on numerous projects both in Chicago and Florida. With expertise in project management, business development and team building as well as subcontracting and budgeting for construction projects he also boasts an outstanding background.

He is a member of the American Hospital Association and has held board positions at local and regional levels. Furthermore, he chaired both Health Systems Agency and Kiwanis Hospital Foundation.

He is currently an associate professor at the University of Hartford and sits on their Music Industry Advisory Board for their Entertainment Business program. Additionally, he has made contributions to MusiCares as well as serving on Atlanta Music Conference Urban Advisory Board.

Achievement and Honors

Thomas Hartford has over 18 years of experience working across space, land and sea at Hamilton Sundstrand (UTC division now Collins Aerospace), where he developed the process for producing Naval Nuclear Reactor cores. Additionally, he spent 13 years with their mechanical engineering department. Thomas also brings extensive expertise in material development as well as manufacturing processes to UTC.

He boasts an impressive list of accomplishments, such as receiving a fellowship from the National Science Foundation and serving as founding principal/executive director for four years of a charter high school within Washington D.C. public schools system. Furthermore, he attended and graduated from University of Connecticut which boasts over 100 undergraduate and 64 graduate programs that encompass arts, humanities, sciences, business engineering technology education and health professions – among many others.

Personal Life

Thomas Hartford was born in 1942 and died peacefully at his home in Western Springs on Friday, January 4th 2019. He was an active founding member of the National Association for the Study and Performance of African-American Music as well as contributing to numerous industry organizations like The Recording Academy and Georgia State University’s Atlanta Chapter Music Management program.

He was married to Maude and had two children. He was an esteemed educator and musician, serving on multiple advisory boards and contributing to several charitable organizations. Additionally, he was actively engaged with his community – such as church membership. Furthermore, he advocated strongly on behalf of deaf community by contributing funds towards several charity groups – leaving an indelible mark that will be missed dearly by many people.
