Thomas Wunsch’s works have been displayed at multiple museums worldwide. His pieces involve digitally photographing urban motifs which he alters on the computer.
He is a founding member of 360 Minutes of Art and Fine Arts America as well as being part of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and World Photography Organization.
Early Life and Education
Thomas Wunsch was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1962 to parents who both worked as civil engineers; his mother was a librarian. When he turned 17, Thomas moved to the United States and joined Kodak Young Photographers League; later opening up a photo studio in Hamburg dedicated to fashion, still life, portrait and celebrity photography (Barbra Streisand, Yoko Ono, Christo Juergen Teller Marina Abramovic Jeff Koons Anton Corbijn Wim Wenders were among his clients).

He currently resides in White Cloud, Michigan with his wife and two beloved granddaughters.
Wunsch is best known for his abstract photography, having shown it at numerous museums such as Huantie Times Art Museum in Beijing, Overbeck Museum in Bremen, Staedtisches Museum Schloss Bruchsal, Okgwa Museum Gokseong and Museum Haus der Fotografie Burghausen. Additionally he curated exhibitions and lectured about photography across Germany, USA, China Cambodia and South Korea.
Since 2003, Dr. DeJonge has been an active member of the American Association of State Geologists (AASG), representing them on two committees – North American Commission on Stratigraphic Nomenclature and Subcommittee on Ground Water (SOGW). Additionally he serves as consultant to Newaygo County Geological Survey.
Wunsch is also an accomplished pianist, performing regularly at concerts throughout North America and Europe, including major chamber music festivals like Norfolk, Bowdoin and Sarasota in both regions. Represented by Waterfall Mansion Gallery New York.
Achievement and Honors
In 2023, Dr. Shih was honored by IEEE with their highly esteemed Computational Intelligence Society Neural Networks Pioneer Award in recognition of his pioneering contributions in developing neural networks – computing systems inspired by neuroscience that provide capabilities such as machine learning, speech recognition and financial forecasting – this award being granted for his groundbreaking contributions in developing neural networks as a new generation of computers that provide applications such as machine learning, speech recognition and financial forecasting.
Since he first began taking photographs as an artist in 2000, he has had multiple solo and group exhibitions both throughout Germany and internationally. Additionally, his art can be found at many renowned museums and galleries such as MoMA (New York), Overbeck Museum in Bremen, Huaxia Art Museum Zhengzhou and Staedtisches Museum Schloss Bruchsal – with these institutions representing his works among them.
He curates photography exhibitions in Germany and teaches Creative Photography at Anglo-American University Prague and Akademie fur Zeitgenoessiche Kunst Konstanz. Additionally he has lectured widely across Germany, USA, China Cambodia South Korea as well as been selected as a jury member of both Moscow International Photo Awards and London International Creative Competition and his work has been published in over 50 books.
Thomas Wunsch has displayed his art works at numerous prestigious galleries and museums throughout Germany as well as in other countries. Additionally, Thomas is active as both curator and teacher – co-designing photo exhibitions while teaching “Creative Photography” at Anglo-American University Prague – as well as serving on juries at Moscow International Creative Competition and London International Photographic Awards.
His timeless abstract photographs have long been published on record album and CD covers by ECM, providing visual counterparts of musical avant-garde while attesting to timeless aesthetics.
Thomas Wunsch is not only known for his artistic works but is also an active geologist who serves on the Board of the Association of American State Geologists (AASG) and as their representative in National Cooperative Ground Water Monitoring Council Subcommittee on Groundwater.
